Potential

This song definitely has some potential to it. I really like the synth that comes in at 2:20. The kick is nice and the mix is good as well. The bass was a bit weak, but nice nonetheless.

My problem with the track is it seems to go nowhere. The progression is okay in a typical dance/house track, but it doesn't build upon each part enough. I think if you take it back and add on some harmonies and different drums, it would really make the track stick out more.

Mans0n responds:

thanks for the honest yet helpful review!
ill be sure to try and mix up the percussion
and add some background stuff to it.
!!

hey

where have you been. Sweet little tune here. I like the dissonance and chords.

TimeBender responds:

been sick a lot. havent heard this one before?

Sweet

Those Boards of Canada short bridging tracks tend to be my favorites, so naturally I really like this song. The pad is amazing. What synth are you using for it? The drums were interesting, although I'd suggest cutting out some of the lows so they are less muddy. Great work :)

VegetarianMeat responds:

Good idea, I made the mistake of not listening to it on my speakers before I finished it up (I use my headphones most of the time).

As for the pad, Absynth - probably my favorite vst to work with.

Quality

Honestly I like it. Creepy and atmospheric in all ways. Keep doing what you're doing.

SukiWukiDookie responds:

Thanks.

Quite nice

I really enjoyed this to be honest. I don't hear the vanilla ice influence but i don't know that many songs by him.
The beat was really smooth and epic, definitely not a typically kind of hip hop beat. I like the originality. The rapping was good and matched the intensity of the beat. That melody is going to be stuck in my head for awhile.
Good job with this one.

Syntrus responds:

NO WAI!

Smooth

I absolutely love that tone on your acoustic. Is that a flanger or something? I really like the progression of this track. It sorta stays in one spot and expands. Makes me think of some of Brian Eno's works.

Boux responds:

its some kind of a crazy echo sound my little brother created on garage band, sounds nice, Thanks for listenning and reviewing!
peace.

Stunning

Wow, this is really beautiful piece of music. It has a nice free form sound to it. It really sounds like Andy McKee to me. My only gripe is the clipping when the guitar gets too loud. The part around 1:20 is sooo nice.
Great job :)

Boux responds:

yeah i should work a bit on the EQing :D
Andy Mckee!!!!!!! wow thanks for the compliment, i listen to him and Don Ross very often.

Very pretty

If this is what you were making back in 2006, I'm really curious to hear what your making now. This is quality music. The progression is wonderful. The drums are a perfect mix of simple yet glitchy and complex. The pad was really sweet Also the piano really caught my attention and fit perfectly along everything else.

You have some real talent. Especially in style not explored too much on Newgrounds.

For me

Apparently I think backwards to most people. I prefered the ambient part opposed to the piano. I think the piano part was way too much of a contrast. Although it was still nice.
The pad in the beginning was absolutely beautiful. What did you use to make it? As for the piano, I think the pacing is too fast for the song.
Still don't take it too seriously if people don't like the begginning. Most wouldn't understand where you are coming from.

BinaryGuy responds:

well maybe i should just listen to people who get me.
i mean, if mozart listened to his peers he wouldn't have written so much music.

Great composition

Very impressive Mr. Orr. I have to admit, I haven't listened to any of your songs recently. I definitely was missing out though.
You have a really great composition here. Something you'd hear in a videogame I'd say. I honestly see nothing wrong with it, but I'm no expert.

The only problem I have with this track is in its mixing. I think it would sound better with a little less reverb. Its perfect on the orchestration parts, and even the piano. But the drums I think would sound better and not as muddy with less reverb. But thats just my 2 cents

Great work :)

DavidOrr responds:

Hey Sine Rider! The drums are actually almost completely dry- except for the toms. Looking back into the mix I think I did get a little carried away on those toms, when I do my revision I'll look back into their levels. Written in my notes!

Great suggestions, thanks for the comments!
