Silent Thought

"Crunchy and sweet"

submission: Silent Thought
date: December 31, 2009

Hm, the beginning of this song really reminds me of the music I used to make 3-4 years ago when I started making tunes. I really enjoyed the pad you had going. Lately I've been into that distorted sort of ambient music.

The ending sort of surprised me. The drums had me thinking Nine Inch Nails. The arp synth going on was really cool too. Some real nice ideas going on here.

Keep worknig at it man, and experiment with what you can :)

Wow this is some really atmospheric stuff. The tempo is all over the place. I really dig that. Some of those effects sound awesome. I really like the reverse arpeggios. The way you used the reverb is crazy. Great work :)

"Totally rad"

Wow this is really awesome. It reminds me a ton of the 90s group Failure. If you like this, definitely check them out. It's the same kind of space rock with a grunge feel.
This is really well produced. I'm just curious what your part was Bjra. Great vocals and lead guitar sounds really nice around 1:30. The vocals are sweet too. I don't really have much criticism for this... Sorry my friend.
I'd totally buy this too :)

I added the drums, the bass, recorded everything in, did all the mixing and mastering, picked tone and effects.

the composition and lyrics are all An A's credit

"Nice nice"

date: November 25, 2009

Sorry I didn't get around to reviewing this until now.I listened to it last week when you PMed me. I really really like it. The glitching is really intense. It sounds great and very unique. The pads are really nice too. I really dig the one at about 1:00. It's really vast and epic sounding.

I always liked 5/4. I tend to write really wacky stuff in it, but you managed to make some really emotional and beautiful music in it. My only gripe with this is in the mixing. Everything melts together unnaturally, although don't take my word for it. I'm shit at mixing myself. Great work dude :)

November 25, 2009

Author's Response:

yeah i didnt spent a huge deal of time with the mixing on this one, so i agree with that

5/4 blows and i hate it xD

glad you liked it dude, w/o you i never would have been inspired to make a crunchy ambient tune, so yeah, thanks for that

later dude. peace out

This is really sweet man. I'm loving that bass tone and groove. It's excellent
Please tell me that is a real bass though. If not, it's one of the mos realistic synth basses I've ever heard. Loving the little synth solo as well. Watch the bass levels though, sort of overpowers the mix.

November 25, 2009

Author's Response:

Well it's 'real', as in not synth, it's still sequenced though. It's based on the Fender Jazz bass from the Reason Electric Bass refill (http://www.propellerheads.se/product s/refills/reb/). I felt I should emphasize the bass as the most important part of the track, so yeah I may have driven the bass level a bit high in the process. Thanks man!

"Lovely in every sense"

date: November 7, 2009

Wow that synth is wonderful. Really punchy yet smooth sounding. I'm liking the crunchy beat too. Wonderful glitching as well. The whole swingy feel throughout the song is great. My only gripe is the mix is a bit muddy when more stuff start. Wonderful work. Good to hear your still making great tunes :)

Yeah I love the synth too :P

"Oh yeah"

I really like this. Windows 95 by far had the best startup music. Mostly because it was written by the wonderful Brian Eno. Fun fact eh? Noice sampling

"Gotta love this kind of recording"

submission: itookachillpill
date: October 17, 2009

I always get a kick out of one take recordings. Although I have to admit, it takes me many, many times to get it right.

Anyways, I really like the ideas thrown around in this recording. As simple as you say it is, they're way more complex then what I usually come up with. I don't have any critique on progression and chords, all very nicely done.

If I were a vocalist, or even could write decent lyrics, I think this track would do nicely with some vocals. Also layer some guitars over it or maybe some keyboard. I'd like to hear an evolved version of this song.

Sorry, I kind of suck at reviews :)

October 17, 2009

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review. This track coulda used a goodly number of more takes.

This song really begs for vocals. I'm hopin to get a proper version recorded some time and pair up with a vocalist to get some. I've been trying to get this thing written for a long time.
